How do I set up a sender domain in Mailingwork?
Setting up a sender domain in MAILINGWORK is a crucial step to ensure the deliverability and authenticity of your emails. By configuring your own sender domain, you can make sure that your newsletters are successfully delivered to your recipients' inboxes. In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to set up a sender domain in MAILINGWORK and explain the required DNS entries.
How to set up a sender domain in MAILINGWORK
In your MAILINGWORK account, go to the "Administration" tab and select "DKIM and Sender Domains". Click the "Create Sender Domain" button to add a new sender domain for your email dispatch.
In the new window, enter the desired sender domain in the "Sender Domain" field. Once created, the URL of the sender domain cannot be changed.
Using the "Default Domain" checkbox, you can set the domain that will be used by default for sending your newsletters. If you use multiple sender domains, you can change the sender domain in the general settings of your mailing.
The "Selector" field in the "DKIM Settings" tab is a freely selectable identifier required by almost all web hosts. It must be unique within the domain and must not include special characters or umlauts. Different DKIM selectors allow you to use different DKIM signatures within one domain for various purposes. Once created, the selector cannot be changed. This field is mandatory.
The key length can be either 1024 or 2048 bits. We recommend 2048 bits for better security. If your domain provider only supports shorter DKIM keys, 1024 bits are acceptable. Once the sender domain is created, the key length cannot be changed.
For email forwarding from the subdomain to the main domain, you can choose from three options:
- No forwarding: Replies are not forwarded, meaning they will be lost. Not recommended!
- Forward to the main domain: If the sender address in the mailing is, for example, info@subdomain.example.com, replies will be forwarded to info@example.com. Please ensure that this mailbox exists on the main domain.
- Forward to a custom address: Replies are forwarded to the specified address. Please ensure that this mailbox exists.
Forwarding settings can be changed at any time.
After saving, you’ll find the new sender domain along with its automatically generated DNS entry in the overview.
Checking DNS entries in MAILINGWORK
In the overview of your sender domains, you’ll find checks for the four required DNS entries (DKIM, SPF, DMARC, and MX entry). A green checkmark indicates that the DNS entry is correctly configured; otherwise, a red cross will appear.
Note: Server updates may cause a delay of several minutes before changes in DNS settings are reflected in MAILINGWORK.
