Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs), such as AOL or MSN, offer their users a so-called complaint option. This allows newsletters with "improper or untrustworthy content," i.e., SPAM, to be reported to the respective service. The ISP forwards these complaints to MAILINGWORK. Subscribers who have "lodged" such a complaint are immediately excluded from mailings sent from the respective account that issued the newsletter.
Unfortunately, some subscribers use this function as a quick unsubscribe option, which can jeopardize the reliable delivery of your newsletter to that service. If the ISP collects multiple complaints about a single newsletter, it may block future emails from the associated sender address.
Ensure that you only contact subscribers who have provided explicit consent to receive your newsletter. Additionally, offering an easy and quick unsubscribe option—preferably at the top of the newsletter—makes it simple for recipients to unsubscribe without resorting to filing a complaint. This is particularly advisable when facing a high complaint rate.
