Sending SMS Messages to Austria: Registering the Sender ID in the RTR Directory

Do you send SMS to recipients in Austria via MAILINGWORK and use a text or your company name as the sender? Then this sender ID must be listed in the official register of the Austrian regulatory authority RTR. In this article, you'll learn what this means and how we can support you with the registration.

Who is affected?

The registration requirement applies to you if both of the following are true:

  • You send SMS to Austrian mobile numbers.
  • You use an alphanumeric sender ID as the sender, i.e. a text such as your company or brand name.

Why is registration necessary?

Austrian mobile network operators only deliver SMS with alphanumeric sender IDs if the ID is listed in the RTR register. SMS with unregistered sender IDs will not be delivered.

What do you need to do?

Your sender ID is already listed in the RTR register?
Then there's nothing you need to do at the moment.

Your sender ID isn't registered yet or you're not sure?
Then we'll support you with the registration. Simply send us all the required information using our form:

Register sender ID

How the registration works

  1. You fill out the form with the details of your sender ID.
  2. We forward your information to our SMS provider.
  3. The SMS provider arranges for your sender ID to be entered in the RTR register.

What applies until registration?

Until your sender ID has been successfully entered in the RTR register, we cannot guarantee that SMS sent with this sender ID will reach recipients in Austria. We therefore recommend initiating the registration as soon as possible.
