Can I embed a video in an e-mail?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to embed videos directly into an email. Here, we explain why this is the case and how you can still effectively guide your recipients to your video.

Displaying a video within an email would require technologies like JavaScript or iFrames. While this works seamlessly on a website, it’s a different story in the email space. Most email clients block JavaScript and similar technologies for security reasons. For example, JavaScript could be used to transmit viruses or malware within an email. Additionally, embedding a video in an email could cause it to be flagged as SPAM and fail to reach the recipient.

Although you cannot directly embed the video in the email, there’s still an appealing way to make it appear so: Use a static thumbnail with an integrated play button. This image can then be linked to the actual video, for example, on YouTube. When the recipient clicks the play button, they will be redirected to the video page on the video platform.

How to Embed a Play Button in Your Image:

  1. Use a graphic program like Photoshop to overlay a play button onto any image or scene from your video.
  2. Save the combined image and upload it to MAILINGWORK or your own web server.
  3. Insert the image into your mailing and link it to the video.
This way, you can effectively guide your recipients to your video without the risks and limitations associated with directly embedding a video in an email.
